Creating Something from Nothing (1969-1981)
While the second law of thermodynamics may have you believe you couldn’t, Monika, as a child, dared to hope. Monika was an only child, but neither of Monika’s parents played a large role in her life. Her father was a factory laborer, and the typical overbearing chinese parent, insisting that She must prioritize her studies over everything else, in order to attend medical school. He didn’t care about Monika’s interests or feelings, and didn’t spend much time with her at all. Monika’s mother was a programmer, and was always too busy with work to bond with Monika. Monika’s family lived in an apartment, and on weekdays Monika would come home from school with hours to spare before her parents returned home. She would be alone. Monika’s classmates at school would take advantage of the fact that Monika had no family to protect her, and they would pick on her. Monika would get into multiple fights a day, and at night her parents wouldn’t even notice her cuts and bruises. After some time, Monika couldn’t tolerate this kind of abuse any further, and She stopped going to school.
As She grew older . Without love from parents, without friends to lean on, without an education, Monika seemed to be destined for a life of crime. As an act of irrational desperation and rage, Monika decided to abandon the home She had, where She had a roof above her head, clothes on her back, and three meals a day. There was a little voice in the back of Monika’s head that told her how stupid this decision was, but at that point, pride was in the driver’s seat. Although everything was against her, [NAME] felt the desire to create something from nothing.
Looting a Burning House (1987-2009)
It is easy, they say, to take advantage of those who already have too much on their plate. Monika had been hired as a private security guard for the wealthiest businessman in her city, Ryan Redfield. This man was a sociopath. He worked sixteen hour days to come home and think about working further. This man had the devotion to be at the top, and he didn’t care who he stepped on to get there. This led to the creation of countless enemies, weak and powerful, but not Monika. Monika didn’t know a lot of people, and She spent most of her days toughening up, and working out. Her strength and skill in hand-to-hand combat had attracted the attention of Redfield and when Monika was approached to become a security guard, She had no reason to refuse the offer.
Working as a security guard was monotonous. Nothing special ever happened, and every day was the same as the last, and the next. Monika found herself spending hours chatting with the other guards, the most notable being one named Emmy.
Emmy had only one thing on her mind all the time, and She would never shut up about it: America. Every day it was America this, America that. She talked about how life in America’s so blissful, and how every woman has an opportunity to make it big. In fact, She had a plan to get to America. She was going to burn up Joila’s mansion and grab as much stuff as She could, then sell it and buy a plane ticket. Apparently this was the best idea someone of Emmy’s education could come up with. Monika took it as a joke and said She would tag along, and Emmy took him seriously. As a consequence, they both started spending their days learning how to speak english. This didn’t perturb Monika, as She was getting free classes without having to fight. This went of for years. One day when Emmy had been excessively serious about lighting Joila’s house on fire, Monika finally told her that She wasn’t going for it. The next day when Monika woke up, She had found out Joila’s mansion had been set on fire. As it turned out, Emmy had set fire to the mansion, and not only She, but in fact all of the security guards had ran off with plenty of loot.
Shutting the Door to Catch the Thief (2010 - 2011)
They were all caught and even though Monika was completely innocent, they were all arrested. They weren’t arrested by the police. They were arrested by another private security company that was put in place to monitor their security company. Evidently, Joila had enough money to spare. Because of this, all of them were thrown into hidden black jails, dotted throughout the city, where they would suffer for the rest of their lives. When Monika and Emmy was separated, Emmy snuck her a note. It read:
“Los Santos, Joila’s imported products, storage. Sunday nights.”
Luckily, Monika had barely spent three months in the jail before She was liberated by political activists. Emmy wasn’t as lucky. Then in a flurry of red tape, Monika somehow was considered to be a political refugee, and was shipped off to, you guessed it: America.
Make a Sound in the East, then Strike in the West (Present Day)
Monika wasn’t even surprised. It wasn’t the first time She’d been let down, and it sure as hell wasn’t her last. Disappointment was a fact of life for Monika, and it was as probable (and as frequent) as the sun rising every morning. Monika sniffed and continued on her way. Someday She would see Emmy again, but that day has yet to come.
